Multiphoton Optics: MPO produces scaffolds for extensive cell studies
November, 2020: As part of the project Poly-IMPLANT-Druck, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Multiphoton Optics GmbH has developed a 3D lithography system that specializes in the production of millimeter-sized scaffolds (3D carrier frameworks) with µm-sized pores. In the future, these scaffolds will be used to repair osteochondral lesions in the transition phase from bone to cartilage and boost the regeneration and healing of the tissue. The individual scaffolds shown in the picture have a height and a diameter of 7 mm each and are intended for extensive cell studies. With the newly developed 3D lithography system, the production time for one of these scaffolds has been reduced to less than 3 hours. This is the first step in scaling. Planned improvements in the automation of the lithography system will further increase the production throughput in the future.
