Lapmaster Wolters GmbH

Lapmaster Wolters GmbH, based in Rendsburg, Germany, is a leading manufacturer of machines and systems for the ultra-precision surface processing of a wide range of materials. The product portfolio includes innovative solutions for slicing as well as single and double-sided processing. Thanks to its many years of experience and extensive expertise, Lapmaster Wolters’ technologies are used worldwide in all industries that place the highest demands on surface quality, plane parallelism, flatness, throughput and dimensional accuracy. Customized solutions are developed in close cooperation with customers to increase their competitiveness.

Slicing equipment

The slicing portfolio encompasses both annular and wire saws. The annular saws facilitate the cutting of workpieces with a wide range of different diameters and sizes. Besides the flexibility given, accuracy and stability remain high. The wire saws are notable for their cost-effective cutting with minimal material loss. Optimized cutting speed in combination with ultra-thin wires enables high throughputs with low consumable costs and superior results. Additional options such as the rocking unit combined with the adaptive feed ensure that the highest component requirements and surface qualities are met.

Single-Sided machining

The necessity of machining the sawn workpieces on one or both sides is contingent upon the specific requirements of the component. Single-sided machining is an effective method for achieving high levels of flatness and precise surfaces. In many instances, the stringent requirements for component surfaces demand single-sided lapping or polishing as a requisite process. Each Lapmaster single-sided machine is meticulously tailored to align with the specific needs of the customer, thereby striking an optimal balance between removal and flatness. This enables customers to precisely adapt the processes to the requirements of the components.

Pitch polishing

Pitch polishing represents a distinctive form of single-sided machining. This process offers an exceptional means of attaining enhanced precision in optical processing. The range of potential applications for Lapmaster pitch polishing machines encompasses low-volume job shop operations and high-volume industrial production. By selecting an optimally suited machine, complemented by the expertise of the Lapmaster Wolters process developers, pitch polishing machines are capable of achieving superior results in surface roughness and flatness when processing optical components.

Double-sided machining

In accordance with the specific requirements of the workpiece, double-sided processing may be required. It is at this juncture that the AC machine series from Peter Wolters becomes particularly advantageous. The AC machines are suitable for a variety of finishing operations, including lapping, fine grinding, and polishing. In many cases, multiple process steps are necessary, which are carried out in a consecutive manner. The extensive experience accumulated by Lapmaster Wolters over many years has resulted in a high level of process diversity, enabling customers to benefit from a process or a suitable process combination that is specifically tailored to their requirements. Double-sided machining enables the attainment of both high surface accuracy and precise flatness of components. However, one of the most significant advantages is the production of components with the best-in-class total thickness variation (TTV) in the industry.
